Microregion, the city is a national metropolis with almost three million
inhabitants, being the city more populated with the Northeast of
Brazil,
third more colonised with this country, and eighth of all Latin America (after
Sao
Paulo, Mexico D.F.,
Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogota,
Rio de Janeiro and Santiago of Chile). Salvador has numerous beaches
throughout the Atlantic coast, and the coast of the Bay of All the Saints. The
main urban beaches are Itapuan, Pituba, Artists, and Porto da Barra. The beaches
of the city attract so much the local inhabitants as to tourists, mainly due to
the pleasant temperature of the water. Almost all the beaches count on located
typical restaurants on the sand (chiringuitos), where it prepares seafood and
diverse drinks, especially they serve beer very cold.
