Stockholm in both cases. The city of Oslo was established like municipality

independent province in 1842. The rural municipality of Aker was absorbed by the
expansion of Oslo in 1948 (and transferred of the province from Akershus to the
municipality of Oslo). The Norwegian capital still shares several important
functions with Akershus and is officially the capital of this last one.
